GIVING YOU WHAT YOU NEED SO YOU CAN GET WHAT YOU WANT !

Recycled Tire Planter Beds (Yeah!)

I have gotten a few requests for a tire planter tutorial. So, I decided to do a short piece on the reclamation of old tires for the purpose of growing food.

1. Gloves 2. Eye protection 3. A Sturdy knife 4. Chalk  5. A Jigsaw ( I use the steel cutting blade 18)

From my experimentation with recycling tiers. I just want to pass on a few pointers that will help you from the start.

  1.  look for Old tires that still have a uniform tread without penetrating bald spots.
  2. Clean the tire thoroughly. (Dry it thoroughly !)
  3. Use chalk to define your the lines you will cut.
  4. The wall of the tire does not have a steel belt.
  5. Before cutting look for line of demarcation. It extends the circumference of the tire.
  6. When you puncture the sidewall of the tire. Make sure the hole is large enough to place the entire blade into the hole.
  7. Cut using common sense . On a stable open surface. Slowly but surely make your cut. If possible 1 cut following the line you drew. All the way around.
  8. The cut out can be used to border other plantings.
  9. When flipping the tire inside out. Start by crushing one side of the tire with your foot. Then slowly turning the tire inside out.
  10. Before planting you will need to put down a inner weed shield. I use biodegradable news papers or lawn screen.
  11. I also use cut outs from a bpa free liner I purchased from lowes. Lay the tire on top and cut about 6 to 12 inches all the way around from the exterior. That liner is then placed inside the tire as well.
  12. Plan your garden before you place the tires. Allow for Sun Light , Shadows and Rain, according to the plant you’ll be using.

Planting a garden has been a grounding experience. One that has allowed me to bond with creation on a another level consciousness .I started with the idea of planting just to see if I would enjoy it. Then I started to see that by planting. My mind and heart become attuned to the plants needs. Then I find that I had facilitated a micro environment. One that’s full of life and struggle . That connection for me was a reaffirmation. The creator is great and every thing and one is connected.
